Ten Wellness Podcasts We’re Enjoying

We are obsessed with podcasts here at Ancient + Brave. They are a brilliant way to learn and find out new things, in a passive way that doesn’t require us to do anything more than just listen. They help us feel connected and involved. Some of our favourite podcast hosts have started to feel like friends: inspiring us and keeping us company in equal measure.

Here are ten wellness podcasts we are loving right now. We listen to them while we walk, drive, run, workout, cook and in the bath! Whether you’re looking for practical tips about exercise, support with your mental or emotional health, or for the latest nutrition advice, these podcasts are filled with interesting and inspiring information.

1. Happy Place

TV and radio presenter Fearne Cotton has spoken refreshingly candidly about her struggles with anxiety, depression and panic attacks for years. Now in its ninth series, Happy Place draws on Fearne’s own experiences as she interviews huge stars about their mental health and what helps them stay to happy, healthy and positive.

Fearne is amazing at creating warm and insightful conversations that offer listeners easy self-care tips, as well as the hope and inspiration we need to work through our own tough times and seek out those precious moments of joy. Her guests range from Dave Grohl to Stephen Fry, and Caitlin Moran to Russell Brand.

2. Food For Thought

Nutritionist and founder of Harley Street clinic Rhitrition, Rhiannon Lambert says she is on a mission to simplify wellness. In her podcast Food for Thought she addresses some of our biggest questions surrounding nutrition, fitness and mental health, including whether it’s time to stop eating meat, the real truth about sugar, how to eat well on a budget and how to stop yo-yo dieting for good.

She is joined by guests who she considers to be experts in the world of wellbeing and together they sort through the evidence about how to live the healthiest, most empowered lives.

3. The Power Hour

What could you do if you dedicated just one hour each day to improving yourself and your life? This is the question Adrienne Herbert asks in her podcast The Power Hour, which is inspired by her own morning power hour, the time she devotes each day to doing the things that she believes set her up for happiness and success.

In each episode she speaks to leading coaches, creatives, change makers and innovators to find out about their morning routines, daily habits, and the rules they live by. If you’re feeling stuck and need some motivation to pursue your dreams, this is the podcast for you.

4. Unlocking Us with Brené Brown

Research Professor Brené Brown has spent over 20 years studying courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy – the emotions and experiences that she believes bring real meaning and purpose to our lives. In her fascinating podcast, Unlocking Us, Brené speaks to the people who inspire and challenge her in order to uncover both the magic and messiness of what it is to be human. These include Oprah Winfrey, relationship psychotherapist Esther Perel and psychiatrist and expert in trauma Bruce Perry.

If you’re looking for an introduction to therapy or you’re interested in understanding what makes you think and act the way that you do, give this a listen.

5. The Rich Roll Podcast

At age 40, and after years of struggling with drugs, alcohol, and unhealthy living, Rich Roll switched to a plant-based diet and dedicated himself to what he describes as “purposeful action”. Just two years later, he was competing in the Ultraman World Championships and leading a community of other people who were also looking to transform their lives.

On his podcast Rich delves into different issues related to health, fitness, nutrition and spirituality, with guests from around the world including actor Matthew McConaughey and Kundalini Yogi Guru Singh.

6. The Food Medic

NHS doctor, nutritionist, personal trainer and author Dr Hazel Wallace aims to cut through the confusing and often conflicting wellness information that we find online. In her podcast The Food Medic she interviews health and medical specialists about everything from periods to gut health, and sobriety to burnout.

7. Deliciously Ella

We follow her on Instagram, buy her energy balls and recipe books, and yes, we also love her podcast! Deliciously Ella, otherwise known as Ella Mills, is the gift that keeps on giving. In her podcast, which she hosts with her husband and business partner Matthew Mills, they discuss everything from plant-based diets for children, to what happens to our brains when we exercise and coping with eco-anxiety.

Having been in the public eye since she launched her blog back in 2011, and now with two young daughters as well as a very successful food business and a yoga teacher qualification, Ella discusses her mental and physical health honestly and opens interesting, important and inspiring conversations.

 8. How To Fail with Elizabeth Day

Author and journalist Elizabeth Day began her How To Fail podcast in October 2017, two years after a divorce and while recovering from a sudden break-up. Despite deeply desiring to become a mother, she was as yet childless, and her future felt uncertain. It was from this place that she felt inspired to make a podcast about the things people learn when things go wrong.

In an age where social media enables us to curate perfect-seeming lives, Elizabeth explores why failing at things is not something to feel ashamed of, but is a necessary part of human life, and one that eventually enables us to succeed, better. Like so many of our favourite hosts, Elizabeth is generous in sharing her own struggles, which makes her conversations with impressive and intriguing guests like author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and philosopher Alain de Botton, not just intelligent but often very moving too.

9.The Wellness Breakdown

Wellness experts Eve Kalinik and Rosemary Ferguson test the limits of the latest wellness trends and separate the pseudo from the science. What’s great about this podcast, is that Eve or Rosemary will set the other a challenge testing the validity and effects of a nutrition or wellness trend.

Armed with their professional experience and insight, they will test these trends and record their progress over several weeks. You will hear the highs and lows of their journey on the podcast. If you are curious about the hottest health + wellness topics, then this is the podcast to listen too.
